The Adi Kesava Temple in Tiruvattar

The banks of the Tamraparni (near Marthandam, off the NH to Kanyakumari)and its minor tributaries are dotted with ancient structures that are closely linked with the history of the erstwhile state of Travancore. One such relic is the Sri Adikesava kshetram in Tiruvattar, located fifty kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram.

Vaikkom Siva temple is located on the eastern shore of Vembanad Lake. The name of Vaikkom become prominent when a Satyagraha campaign was launched in 1924 to throw open temple to the Avarna Hindus to whom they were closed.

The biannual festival at the Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple concluds with Aaraat which falls on 2nd of April. His Highness Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma, the present head of the Travancore Royal Family, who escorts the deities to the Sanghumukham Beach, recollects how Aaraat was celebrated during in his younger years.
