Amma
Matha Amrithanandamayi (Amma) is one of the great Indian Gurus of the modern times. Known popularly as the “hugging saint”, her advice, or even her touch gives fresh life to many desperate souls. Amrita TV has a programme, “Amritavarsam” showing her discourses and Bhajan, every Saturday and Sunday at 6.00 A.M. This is re telecasted at 9.30 PM.
Amma usually illustrates great principles with simple stories. Her stories are touching and have deep meaning. For example, once she told the story of a guru who was embracing a thorny bush and same time crying that thorns are hurting him. The disciple went to him and asked? "Guruji, What foolishness are you doing? You are embracing the bush and at the same time crying with pain. Why are you not releasing it?" Then the Guru explained. "Dear son, you call me a fool. But you are also doing the same thing .You are thinking over that bad incident again and again and crying about it. Just release it." After such stories Amma, generally discusses the principles behind the story.
Bhajan by Amma and her disciples follows this. Then comes the majestic lecture by swami Amritha Swaroopananda. Swamiji, in his versatile style discusses many topics, again with beautiful stories. His voice will reverberate in your mind once you hear him.
This half an hour program is very nice and a must see for anybody serious about life.We often wish that this program lasted for one hour.
